Born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Gladys started dancing at the young age of four, performing as Rudolph in a school Christmas program. Throughout all of Elementary school, Gladys found herself dancing; for fun, for motivation, and even as an outlet to escape family hardships. Dance has not only been her gift but it has also been a catalyst to escape poverty. As a member of the drill team in Jr. High School she started using her unique creative abilities by starting a dance team called 2 Much 2 Handle performing in various community events and talent shows. As she continued her dance journey, at Crenshaw High School (class of 2002), Gladys participated as a majorette and joined a dance group entitled Get Em Up Clowns whose dance style modeled dancer Tommy the Clown. This dance team would go on to perform at various locations throughout L.A. and even featured some of the most respected dancers and entertainers in the industry. The Rize film available for viewing on Netflix is based on the team and dance style.
Gladys' professional career kicked off in a major way! She booked her first gig with the Black Eyed Peas and the jobs kept rolling in! These jobs included a K-Swiss Commercial, a Will Smith video, At&t Go Phone Commercial, Tribute to Rick James at the ASCAP Awards, MTV Awards, Americas Got Talent, and much more! Even as a mother, Gladys continued to pursue her career of dance, joining a Dallas based team, entitled Mom Crew.
Through Gladys' experience as a professional dancer, she saw a need in the industry that provided a different prospective, she formed this unique group of women; The Curvy Queenz of Dallas Dance Team. Gladys Johnson envisioned a plus size dance group to become known in the world of dance. This group was formed in March 2018 and is now a sought-after, industry leading group of women who do much more than dance. The Curvy Queenz are here to prove once and for all, Dance Has No Size!
